Windview
Athletic Fields Services
Windview Athletic Fields offers the following services but is not limited to:
Mowing
Typically performed twice a week at 1.5” height to provide a dense turfgrass stand.
Soil Testing
One of the most important, however, commonly overlooked aspects in athletic field maintenance, our soil tests are sent to local labs and the results determine the best fertilization approach for your field.
Fertilizing
Fertilizer should be applied throughout the year to achieve 4 to 6 lbs of nitrogen per thousand square feet dependent on the field use. At least 1/2 of the nitrogen should come in a controlled release form to eliminate any spikes in growth and maintain a uniform feeding for the turf.
Lime Application
Turfgrass plants prefer a slightly acidic pH, which actually helps to prevent a multitude of diseases. If the pH drops too low, however, the plant is unable to access valuable nutrients for growth. Lime makes the pH more basic.
Core Aerification
Relieves compaction, improves oxygen exchange, reduces thatch, improves infiltration and creates channels for root growth. Athletic fields should be core aerified twice a year. Core Aerification also aids in seed/soil contact at the time of seeding to enhance germination rates.
Deep-Tine
One of the single most beneficial processes that can be performed on an athletic field is deep-tine. It promotes root growth down to 12”, promotes oxygen exchange and increases macroporosity in the soil. Great in combination with topdressing to begin changing the soil profile.
Slit Seeding
Grass plants are constantly destroyed throughout the growing and playing season. A dense turfgrass stand is your first line of defense against weeds and a dense stand creates a smoother, safer playing surface. We slit seed on a 2” spacing and drop the seed into the soil which promotes the best possible germination.
Spraying
All applicators are certified to handle any or all of your spraying needs. We do follow a strict IPM management program and only spray chemicals on an as needed basis.
Topdressing
This is the thin application of materials over the playing surface. The most common products used are sand, topsoil and compost either individually or mixed together. Topdressing covers the crown (growth center) of the plant, protecting the crown directly correlates to a better field.
Infield Preparation
Grooming, edging, weed control, game day prep, post game clean up, mound construction and the addition of diamondtex are all available.
Growth Covers
In order to promote existing growth and begin growth of new seed, we offer growth covers over the winter to keep the soil warm.
Artificial Turf Maintenance
Light and Heavy Tining to stand up tillers, reduce compaction, provide consistency, reduce hardness and increase infill depth.
Disinfectant Spraying for MRSA, Blood, Sweat, Tobacco, etc.
Crumb Rubber Topdressing.
Ice Melt Products
From November to February we stock and deliver Rock Salt and Calcium Chloride products.
